Hunterdon United Way Names Volunteer of the Year

RARITAN TOWNSHIP… A Clinton Township man will be honored in May as Volunteer of the Year.

United Way of Hunterdon County will honor Charles Rebick as “Community Volunteer of the Year” at its 7th annual “Celebrating Community Caring” recognition dinner from 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 7 at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, 88 Route 173 West, in the Perryville section of Union Township.

Rebick will be honored for his longtime commitment, creativity, leadership, inspiration and sustained service to Hunterdon County residents. The dinner will also celebrate the commitment of all community volunteers.

‘Annie Jr.’ comes to Lebanon

For those who want to experience live theater without the hassle of expensive prices or treks to Manhattan, the ShowKids Invitational Theatre’s production of “Annie Jr.” might just be the ticket.

Singing, dancing and acting are being practiced by a cast of 60 children — ages 5 and older — up to 10 hours a week. The performance is scheduled for Nov. 13, Nov. 14 and Nov. 15. It is the first performance out of trilogy being offered this year.

Hunterdon County children acting at the “workshop level,” or beginner, will perform “Really Rosie” in early June and an advanced group, known as the “main stage group,” will perform “Music Man” in May. The Annie Jr. cast is in the company’s “pre-SKIT” or intermediate level.

Norwescap presents Psychic, Medium

Trish Woods, Psychic and Medium, will be holding a Spirit Gallery to benefit the Career & Life Transitions Center for Women at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 at the Little Theater in Hunterdon Central High School.

Woods, along with two other mediums, Jeanne Pacheco and Beth Lee, communicate with those in the afterlife. They will work separately the first hour and in tandem the second hour. Tandem readings with three mediums is something that is rarely seen anywhere in the world. Woods invites you to come and experience the joy and love from your friends and loved ones in the Spiritworld and at the same time support the Career & Life Transitions Center, a vital community support organization.

River’s Edge Music Festival lands in Lambertville

The first ever River’s Edge Music Festival will run from 12 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22 on the Delaware River by the Lambertville Boat Launch with music, food, arts and crafts.

Delaware Valley Poetry Festival presents Rita Dove

The 12th annual Delaware Valley Poetry Festival at 8 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the  Prallsville Mills, Route 29, in Stockton will feature former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove. One of America’s most highly-acclaimed poets, Dove will read from her works at the newly renovated former sawmill  along the Delaware River.

A wolf, two kings, three pigs and a guy named Shylock were making a strange noise in the library Wednesday thanks to the magic of radio theater.

Hunterdon Radio Theatre’s William Spear and Elaine Powers brought a bag full of scripts, half a dozen microphones and endless imagination to about two dozen teens Wednesday at the North County Branch Library’s Teen Cafe.

Family Fun Day at Spruce Run

UNION TOWNSHIP (Hunterdon) — The South Branch Watershed Association joins with the Hunterdon Sailing Club and Spruce Run Recreation Area for Fun Day at Spruce Run, a family day for the nautically inclined from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday 7/18 at the public boat launch
area.

Events include a paddle poker run on the lake, sailboat rides hosted by club members, fly casting demos by Trout Unlimited, a water rescue demo by the High Bridge Rescue Squad, canoeing and kayaking. Exhibitors include The Sailboat Shop, PaddlersCove, Mohawk Canoe Club, The Hunterdon Scuba Center, Trout Unlimited, Shannon’s Fly and Tackle, the Hunterdon Sailing Club, the South Branch Watershed Association, Spruce Run Recreation Area, and the Hunterdon Department of Parks & Recreation.

Bluegrass Party at the Library

RARITAN TOWNSHIP — The Hunterdon County Library presents live music from the Beth Coleman Bluegrass Band at “”Festive Friday Summer Block Party” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 17 on the outdoor stage at 314 Route 12 at the county complex.

Activities will include a moon bounce, face painting, tie-dying, Nintendo Wii and many other outdoor games and activities. Refreshments will also be available. For those who want to tie-dye, please bring items of your choice to dye, which can include t-shirts, hats, socks, sneakers, whatever. The concert will be held outdoors so bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Tewksbury Theater in the Park

TEWKSBURY — The Oldwick Community Players present two plays in the park this summer.

“”The Trojan Women” will be performed at 7 p.m. July 9 and 10 and at 2 p.m. July 12 at  Christie Hoffman Farm Park, 108 Fairmont Road West, County Route 512 in Califon, and at 7 p.m. July 11 at High Bridge United Methodist Church, 40 Church St., High Bridge.

William Shakespeare’s “”Much Ado About Nothing” will be performed at 7 p.m. July 30, 31, Aug. 1 and Aug. 2, and at 2 p.m. Aug. 1 and 2 at the park.

Clinton Town merchants present summer sidewalk music events

I know you, you know me, one thing I can tell you is you got to be — in downtown Clinton.

The Clinton Guild merchants and the Town of Clinton present the “”Come Together” summer music and shopping open air sidewalk series named for the Beatles’ classic hit of the same name will run on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. until Aug. 28, and on Sundays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Rubber Ducky Race Day July 12 and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 and Aug. 30.
