Dispute over dancers leads to road rage, DWI in Clinton Township
A dispute over two dancers at a Hampton club led to a road rage incident and a drunken driving charge on Route 31 early Sunday morning.
The chain of events began at Club 31 in Hampton when a patron, later identified as Steven Monks, 47, of High Bridge, waited in the parking lot for two dancers, employed by the establishment, police say. When the dancers left work, Monks began flirting with the two performers, a caller told police. The caller intervened and he and Monks became involved in a road rage incident, passing and tailgating each other on southbound Route 31 into Clinton Township, police said. The incident came to a climax when Monks backed into the other vehicle, according to police. When Patrolman Drew McQueen arrived at the scene at about 2:05 a.m. Sunday, he saw two vehicles parked on the side of the road near Echo Lane. McQueen determined that Monks was intoxicated, police said. Monks was taken to police headquarters where he was charged with driving while intoxicated and failing to produce a driver's license. When Monks was unable to have a responsible adult respond to police headquarters and take custody of him, he was taken to the Hunterdon County Jail for a 12-hour commitment. Authorities also impounded his car. Michael Deak: 908-243-6611; mdeak@MyCentralJersey.com
